The 12th Indonesia Vis Pre-Moot

Years after years Indonesian law students have participated in the Indonesia Vis Pre-Moot rounds to engage, train, and develop their arguments for their upcoming oral arguments in Vienna or Hong Kong. Unfortunately, once the pandemic started, the Indonesian pre-moots had to be held online. This year’s Indonesian pre-moot was especially meaningful as this marks the first offline pre-moot after the pandemic, and the first pre-moot to be held outside Jakarta.

The 12th Indonesia Pre-Moot was held in Yogyakarta on 11-12 March 2022, hosted by Indonesia Young Arbitration Community (IYAC) alongside PrivyId, KarimSyah Law Firm, and Universitas Gadjah Mada as the co-host. Much like the actual Vis in Hong Kong and Vienna, the event was conducted simultaneously in 2 venues: Universitas Gadjah Mada’s Faculty of Law campus and the office of PrivyId. The event was also sponsored by Badan Arbitrase Nasional Indonesia (BANI), BPJS Ketenegakerjaan, and IFG Life.

A total of six universities (Universitas Gadjah Mada, Universitas Indonesia, Universitas Prasetiya Mulya, Universitas Padjajaran, Universitas Bina Nusantara, and Universitas Sebelas Maret) participated. The arbitrators comprised of lawyers and practitioners, academicians, Vis Moot alumnis, and coaches, securing a conducive atmosphere for the event. This is a milestone as this year’s pre-moot is the largest Indonesia Vis Pre-Moot to date, and one of the most competitive: signifying passion and growth for the Indonesian young arbitration community.

After a heated competition, Universitas Gadjah Mada came victorious as the champion of the 12th Indonesia Vis Pre-Moot. Universitas Indonesia came up as the runner up alongside Universitas Prasetiya Mulya as the 2nd runner up. The closing speech of the event was given by Rizki Karim, a co-founder of IYAC.

All in all, the 12th Indonesia Vis Pre-Moot has been a great success and joy for all committees and participants. We congratulate and thank everyone involved in organizing and participating in this year’s Pre-Moot, wish all the teams the best of luck for the upcoming Vis moot, and look forward to news of more achievements from Indonesia.
